About us
Having won two awards for best show in the region in recent years, SCMTC has begun to grow into a society that really does provide great entertainment for its audiences.
SCMTC was originally founded in 1933 as Sutton Coldfield Operatic Society. Since then the society has gone from strength to strength, and now performs two shows a year one at at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre, and the other at Sutton Coldfield Town Hall.
Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company produces some of the highest quality shows in the Midlands non-professional scene.
SCMTC prides itself not only on the success of its productions, but also the varied and popular social events that our Social team work hard to arrange. Recent events have been group bookings to see shows in the West End and in Birmingham, barbecues, camping trips, an annual Dinner Dance, and of course, our most popular social event - a well earned pint at the local pub after rehearsals on a Friday.
We rehearse on a Friday night at Four Oaks Junior School, with principal rehearsals on Tuesday nights. We look forward to meeting you, or seeing you at our next production.
Opportunities
Fancy a lead role? Prefer dancing on the back row of the Chorus? Or maybe you prefer keeping the show running backstage? Either way, we have something for everyone. If dancing isn't your strength, don't panic! There is always a role for those of us with two left feet! Find it hard to conquer your nerves? Our backstage crew are at the core of the continued success of our productions.
Still not sure? How about helping with props? Costumes? Promotions? Or even help support our social committee?
Membership and Auditions
No one particularly likes to audition - that's a well known fact. But all we require to give you membership status, is a short audition including a bit of script reading, and to provide you with a chance to show us your singing style and range, with a song of your choice.
But don't panic, you will have plenty of time to prepare.
Age restrictions
We welcome budding actors, dancers and singers of any age, provided that you are 16 by the show week of the show you wish to take part in.
However, some of the shows we produce do include children. So if you have brother's, sisters, nieces or nephews that have the acting bug, please contact one of our Director's who will let you know if any of our upcoming shows have opportunities for the under 16's.
