Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company produces some of the highest quality shows on the Midlands non-professional scene.

SCMTC was originally founded in 1933 as Sutton Coldfield Operatic Society. Since then the Company has gone from strength to strength, and now performs two shows a year at the Lichfield Garrick Theatre.

We rehearse on Friday nights at Four Oaks Junior School, with principal rehearsals on Tuesday nights. We look forward to meeting you, or seeing you at our next production.

2011 Seven Brides for Seven Brothers

“SEVEN Brides for Seven Brothers is just what you expect. A thigh slapping high energy
all-singing, all-dancing evening at the theatre, which the Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre
Company delivered with aplomb at Lichfield Garrick. It is the overall brilliant choreography
and unreserved energy and enthusiasm of the company that stays in the mind, and especially
the spectacular finale. For movie fans Howard Keel and his friends returned with acclaim.”

2011 Little Shop of Horrors

“Vocals were strong and harmonious throughout the whole cast and they didn’t falter against the
high-energy choreography. The set was professional, the costumes were bright and colourful
with token flashes of sequins and the small band made big noise with a rock ‘n’ roll, doo wop
score. The interactions between the actors were confident and showed mature, working relationships.
It’s recommended that you take the opportunity to go and see SCMTC’s next production, as amongst
them are some real West End-worthy performers!”

2012 The Pirates of Penzance

“This production had excellent choreography and direction and I was pleased to see that the
production team of choreographer, director and musical director are all female (girl power!!).
It was clear that the musicians, along with the cast, were enjoying playing the wonderful music
of this operetta. I think the years since I last saw this production have made me appreciate more
the cleverness of Gilbert and Sullivan and their gentle mocking of society. Its a shame their music
has fallen out of favour in some of the bigger theatres.”

2012 This Time Next Year

By the end of the night and the final closing numbers you wanted to get up on the stage and go to
the hop and rock around the clock. In general Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company (SCMTC)
have done it again. Don’t just take my word for it though. Overheard in the lobby were comments
such as “Great Show”, “Glad I came” and “Very Funny”.

2013 Oklahoma

‘Unreservedly outstanding ’ – Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company’s latest production
‘Oklahoma’ at the Lichfield Garrick. From the first sound of the orchestra we were absorbed into
this well loved musical which shows no sign of being 70 years old this week! Here were strong
performances from the principals, a vibrant and enthusiastic company with exemplary choreography.

2013 Encore!

In 1933 a group of people got together to form Sutton Coldfield Operatic Society. Now Eighty years
later Sutton Coldfield Music Theatre Company shows no signs of slowing down. Encore was a
mammoth undertaking with some 31 numbers from shows they had performed over the eighty years,
including a number from their very first production, Maritana….SCMTC and Helen, you have another
hit on your hands.

2014 Witches of Eastwick

Sally Baxter’s production moved with pace, which this show required. Well done SCMTC and here’s
to the next 80 years.

2014 Half A Sixpence

One of the great shows of the past was ‘Showboat’, ‘Half a Sixpence’, the dynamic production by
the Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre, is a Song boat! All the twenty songs were delivered like the
whole show with dynamism, enthusiasm and endless energy. The costumes were colourful, the
choreography exemplary, the best was made of all the songs.

2015 Buddy

Buddy is a beautifully poignant musical, not only is it filled with timeless songs, it tells the
story of the tragically short life of Buddy Holly. Having seen this show professionally a number
of times, it was a delight to see it brought to the stage by Midlands amateur theatre group,
Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company. The cast oozed enthusiasm and energy from start to finish,
with a slick production that showcased an array of talents.

2015 Peter Pan

“You must think of something wonderful...a sight, a smell, a sound...” sings Peter Pan as he teaches
Wendy, John and Michael the secret of flying in this adaptation of the classic J M Barrie story;
and the audience does not have to search for long to find something to carry them away in this
magical production from Sutton Coldfield Musical Theatre Company (SCMTC). The stories and characters
of Neverland have endured for over 100 years and showed no sign of disappearing at Lichfield Garrick Theatre
this evening.
